Rex's - Festival de la Fancophonie - Reflection

Which 2 learner profiles would you attribute to yourself during our preparation?

I would attribute myself to reflective, risk-taker.

Why did you chose the above 2 Leaner Profile. Explain your choice.

One of the learner profiles I would attribute to myself is "risk-taker". It is because I am not the best at speaking in front of an audience, especially parents. However, I didn't choose a role that has little lines, but instead one of the bigger roles - which was Mr. Martin. I have about 25 lines. I was hard for me because I am not confident in speaking french. This is the reason I believe I was a risk-taker.

The second learner profile I would attribute to myself is "reflective". This is because I have been constantly reflecting upon how well and how quickly I can recall my lines. I practise them daily when I am showering or on the bus. I also think of the lines every time before and during the play starts. Moreover, I reflect upon how I am saying and presenting my lines to the audiences. I think of how loud I should since I always speak too softly, and remind myself during the play. Although my action for my first scene wasn't much, I did reflect where I should look and turn, and what hand gestures I could do to make it look more natural. For the part where we start saying random things which "we" thought was wise, I reflected and decided I shouldn't curl my bac, and I should stand up in more confidence, and not just fall back into the chair... This is the reasons I believe I was reflective.

What was the best part of your experience?

The best part of my experience is the first time we presented our play on that night. I thought it was a great experience since we get to have our costumes on and actually present to people so I thought what we had worked on paid off. Also, it was the first time which had more people, but an appropriate amount for the first time since I was quite nervous. So the best part was definitely performing to the "public".

What do you think you would like to do next year to enhance your experience?

I think if we were to do it again, I would like to suggest we get more props, because although it is the theatre of the absurd, it might be too boring for people because it’s already in french, and there isn’t much action, so maybe I would propose we decorate the place more, and make it more interesting. Otherwise, I might suggest if we could have an english script for parents to take if they want to. Since a lot of the parents do not understand french - and on the other hand, there isn’t much decoration. And it at the same time,  parents can also see our level of french, or even more ideal, able to refer the play and script back and forth. However, as some of my own mistakes, I would not panic again when some one said the wrong line, I could’ve just say “quelle cacade” after Sarah did “teuff teuff” after Alice made a mistake.

Choose 1 Learner Profile that you would like to demonstrate next year? (different from above)

A Learner Profile that I would like to demonstrate next year is “thinker”.

Explain your choice

I would like to be more of a thinker last year so I could fix moments that went wrong by thinking of solutions quicker and being calmer, so awkwardness would be avoided. I would like to do so since I have experienced that moment this year when Alice said the wrong line, and I started to panic, not knowing where to start, and I wasn’t thinking quick enough so I ended up continuing the last part, and at that point, it couldn’t be fixed because the others have to continue the sentence. Causing a whole page to be missed. So I would like to demonstrate myself more as a thinker.

Write any 2 to 3 sentences in French…

Je pense que j’ai apprendu beaucoup pendant l’experience du Festival de la Francophonie. Mais il a besoin de beaucoup de le courage pour moi quand j’ai effectué - J’ai été très nerveux!

Student Led Fitness - Grade 8

I am a group with Arno, Jasmine, and Leigh Ann. We arranged it so that it has a 2-minute warm-up, 7-minute workout, and a 2-minute cool-down. First, we spin our arms forward for 10 seconds. Then, we spin our arms backwards for 10 more seconds. And then, we stretch our arm muscles for 10 seconds (5 each), then we stretch the insides of our arms for 10 seconds (5 each). And then we will rotate our bodies for 10 seconds. Then we stretch the sides of our bodies for 10 seconds (5 each). Then, we stretch our thighs for 10 seconds (5 each). Afterwards, we will stretch the inside of our legs for 10 seconds (5 each). Then, we go up and down on the stairs for 20 seconds continuously. Then, we jog slowly for 1 and a half minute. Then, we do jumping jacks for 30 seconds. Then, we shuffle for 30 seconds. Then, we Criss-cross for 30 seconds. Then, we do jumping jacks for 30 seconds again. And then, we have a water break for 1 minute standing up. Then, we do at least 7 push-ups for 30 seconds. Then, we do at least 7 sit-ups in 30 seconds. And then, we do lunges for 1 minute from line to line. Then, we do 12 burpees at least for 1 minute. Then, there is another stand-up water break for 30 seconds. And then, we do a slow walk around whatever place we are at, for 30 seconds. And then, we go up and down and touch our toe for 20 seconds. Then, we do a butterfly stretch for 20 seconds.

  • 00:10 - Spin Arms Forward
  • 00:10 - Spin Arm Backwards
  • 00:10 - Arm Stretch
  • 00:10 - Shoulder Stretch
  • 00:10 - Rotate Body
  • 00:10 - Stretch Body
  • 00:10 - Stretch Thighs
  • 00:10 - Stretch Legs' Insides
  • 00:20 - Stair Stepping
  • 01:30 - Slow Jog
  • 00:30 - Jumping Jacks
  • 00:30 - Shuffling
  • 00:30 - Criss-Cross
  • 00:30 - Jumping Jacks
  • 01:00 - Stand-up Water-break
  • 00:30 - 7 Push-ups
  • 00:30 - 7 Sit-ups
  • 01:00 - Line-to-line Lunges
  • 01:00 - 12 Burpees
  • 00:30 - Stand-up Water-break
  • 00:30 - Slow Walk
  • 00:20 - Toe-touch
  • 00:20 Butterfly Stretch

I don't think this is too challenging - the first part has stretches, so that should be too hard to do, and it should prepare people to do some real exercise without twisting or straining their muscles. And then the stair stepping and the slow jog kind of helps it lead into the workout and is something we usually do in class. The jumping jacks aren't that hard. Shuffling and criss-cross is also something we do in class sometimes for our fitness unit. It starts to require some energy and breath, so there is a time for jumping jacks, a tiny bit less intense. When you get back your air, you should and need to get water, and it's good to do so. And then, there is the ones that train your muscles and make them strong. There is a number of push-ups and sit-ups and burpees you have to do with a time limit, so people have a speed that is set for them and can't just not do it, so it won't be too easy. The lunges train the leg muscles, we can't forget about them. And then, the water break again is healthy for your body. The slow walk allows you to catch your breath a bit. And the toe-touch allows you to stretch and stand up while doing it before you sit to do the butterfly stretch.

Bob: Oh mon dieu, Isaac! Chut, nous assistons à une classe! Non, ces idées sont bizarre et c'est une catastrophe!

Samuel: Mais c'est vrai! En fait...

Matthew: Oui, Isaac a raison. Peut-être nous pouvons parler de ce sujet.

Umair: Je suis d'accord avec Matthew.

Tout: Bien, on y va.

Reflection: Rex's "Dürer's Mum" Drawing

unnamed.jpg

I chose to draw this art, which is the mother of Dürer because before I seldom tried to sketch or paint a face of a person or living beings before, and when I did, I give up because it's too hard and sometimes I just fail. Therefore, I chose to do it, because I want to challenge myself and I can have some assistant of my teacher when I do it as a class project. On general, I think I did pretty well because it looks quite like the original drawing, and it looks very realistic. I believe I gained confidence from this enjoyable and successful experience. The material of the doesn't seem very fancy, and the clothing overall is quite simple. Actually it looks a little bit like a nan. She herself looks kind of old. And her facial features, especially her chin, are something you don't see often nowadays. Together with no colours and that the drawing is black and white makes it looks old. The black and white really makes it look less vibrant and have a feeling that it's fading away.

Cher Mathieu,

A bientôt, bises,
Rochelle
